The TerryWhite Chemmart IMPACT conference wrapped up on its third day with the eagerly awaited annual celebration, the HEART Awards. With over 1,000 delegates in attendance, this year’s event showcased dedication and excellence within the TerryWhite Chemmart community.

Delegates immersed themselves in the future of pharmacy, exploring a rapidly evolving landscape shaped by changing customer and patient expectations, innovative store design, and an expanding scope of practice, with the brand reaffirming its commitment to empowering its network with cutting-edge solutions to drive efficiency, growth, and patient care.

Key announcements set to redefine the pharmacy experience for both businesses and customers included –
– major enhancements to the myTWC health app, and the eCommerce experience,
– a refreshed store design optimised for full scope,
– the rollout of electronic shelf labels,
– and the implementation of a new clinical governance platform

Executive General Manager Nick Munroe remarked, “The past three days have been incredibly productive and inspiring. It has been a year full of change, and we remain steadfast in our direction. TerryWhite Chemmart continues to drive excellence across retail, dispensary, and the continued expansion of pharmacist’s scope and delivering health services to our communities. This conference has further reinforced our dedication to this mission.”

The culmination of significant efforts from the past year was celebrated at the HEART Awards Gala dinner, which recognised excellence across the TerryWhite Chemmart community. Awards were presented to outstanding pharmacies from each state, acknowledging their commitment to delivering exceptional service and care to their communities.

The TerryWhite Chemmart National Pharmacy of the Year was awarded to TerryWhite Chemmart Noraville in NSW. Pharmacy owners Lachlan Walters and Robert King commented that joining TerryWhite Chemmart showed them what a health focused community pharmacy brand could deliver for their community.

Mr Walters added, “The support from TerryWhite Chemmart over these past 18 months has been truly incredible. They’ve been there every step of the way as we’ve brought a more sophisticated retail offer and health services to the community of Noraville.”

In addition to recognising pharmacies across the network and supplier partners, individual team members and pharmacy owners were recognised across several categories, including the prestigious Rhonda White Leadership Award.

Karen Brown, this year’s award recipient, reflected on the impact of being a pharmacist and the privilege of leading her team.

“Being a pharmacist is incredibly rewarding because every day brings something new. You never know what challenges or opportunities will come through the door, but by the time you leave, you know you’ve made a difference in someone’s life. That’s a privilege not many professions offer,” she said.

“I’m also incredibly grateful for my team—leadership isn’t about me, but about supporting them in the way they need, which can change from moment to moment. At the heart of it all, we have a responsibility to be there for our community, and I’m so proud to stand alongside my team in that role.”

As the TerryWhite Chemmart IMPACT Conference in Melbourne comes to an end, the Pharmacy Network is committed to solidifying their role as leaders in care, adopting cutting-edge digital technology, providing patient-centric care, and promoting best practices to shape a better future for Australian pharmacy.

The Pharmacy Guild of Australia welcomes the appointment of new Northern Territory Health Minister Steve Edgington and congratulates Chief Minister Lia Finocchiaro on forming government.
Pharmacy Guild of Australia National President, Professor Trent Twomey said the Guild looked forward to working with Minister Edgington and the Finocchiaro Government on expanding Territorians’ access to primary health services.
“We are delighted the Country Liberal Party will, within the first twelve months of being in government, bring to fruition its commitment to enable community pharmacies to provide treatment for 23 everyday ailments including swimmer’s ear, school sores, smoking cessation and asthma.”
“We especially welcome the government’s priority action to introduce community pharmacists’ treatment of uncomplicated UTIs within the first 100 days of holding office.”
Professor Twomey said the changes would enable greater healthcare access to Territorians and alleviate pressure on general practitioners and emergency departments.
“I know the new government and the Guild share the same vision for better outcomes for NT patients.
“I also know the NT’s community pharmacists are ready and willing to do more for their patients and to undertake the appropriate training needed to deliver this.”
Last week, New South Wales became the second state to endorse community pharmacists operating to their full scope of practice, with an announcement by Health Minister, Ryan Park at the Pharmacy Connect conference in Sydney.
When realised, the new NT Government’s commitment positions the NT in front of Queensland and NSW, as nation leaders in empowering community pharmacists to do more and provide patients with expanded health care options.

The TerryWhite Chemmart ELEVATE conference drew to a close on its third day with the highly anticipated annual celebration, the HEART Awards. With nearly 800 delegates in attendance this year’s event, in Pert, Western Australia it showcased the dedication and excellence within the TerryWhite Chemmart community.

Throughout the conference, delegates engaged in sessions covering a range of topics, including outlining the brands vision for the future, and the brand’s updated loyalty program, REWARDS plus. Additionally, there was a strong emphasis on supporting pharmacists to practice at the top of their scope, alongside exploring innovative ways to enhance pharmacy efficiency and retail best practices.

Executive General Manager Nick Munroe commented, “The past three days have been incredibly productive and inspiring. We are committed to driving excellence across retail, dispensary, and our CareClinic program. This conference has further reinforced our dedication to this mission.”

The culmination of significant efforts from the past year were celebrated at the HEART Awards Gala dinner, which recognised excellence across the TerryWhite Chemmart community. Awards were presented to outstanding pharmacies from each state, acknowledging their commitment to delivering exceptional service and care to their communities.

In addition to recognising pharmacies across the network, supplier partners, individual team members and pharmacy owners were also recognised across several categories, including the prestigious Rhonda White Leadership Award.

Therese Lambert, this year’s recipient of the award was overjoyed when she heard the news and accepted her award from Queensland, as her pharmacy was undergoing a shop fit to expand to add Care Clinic rooms for expanded scope of practice. Ms Lambert commented that this recognition has made a challenging year worth every minute.

“The past 12 months have definitely been the most challenging of my career with finishing my expanded scope studies but also the most rewarding. This is an accomplishment I couldn’t have achieved without my amazing team here at TerryWhite Chemmart Sarina and business partners, husband, kids, family and friends for their love and encouragement.”

“I finished my last exam last week, so I am really excited for what the future holds.” Ms Lambert said.

As the curtains close on the TerryWhite Chemmart Elevate Conference in Perth, the plans for the year ahead have been detailed and the network is focused cementing their position as experts on care, embracing emerging digital technology, delivering care for patients on their terms, and driving best practice to build a better future for Australian pharmacy.

The high number of nominations received from PSA members has meant that all Branch Committees will go to election in 2023, with all eligible voters having received voting instructions today.

PSA Chief Executive Officer Mark Kinsela encourages all PSA members to vote for the future leadership of PSA.

“Branch Committees serve an important purpose for the PSA, from appointing the PSA Board, providing input and advice on local policy issues affecting pharmacists, and fighting for every pharmacist across your state or territory,” says Mr Kinsela.

“Electing members to serve on Branch Committees gives members the opportunity to have their voices heard, and to affect the future of the entire profession.

“I encourage all PSA members to engage with the election process – reach out to your branch committee candidates and make sure your vote counts.”

Australia’s leading voting and election provider CorpVote has been appointed to manage the election process.

To celebrate the achievements, diligence and resilience of its national pharmacy network during 2020, leading Sigma retail pharmacy brands, Amcal and Guardian Pharmacies, have announced its new industry-facing, 12 Days of Christmas inspired initiative to thank those at the frontline of community healthcare.

Rolling out across all Amcal and Guardian’s owned social media channels including LinkedIn, and via internal communications, the initiative tells the stories of remarkable pharmacists who have gone above and beyond in their communities during 2020, despite the frequent disruption of Covid-19.

Each pharmacist was nominated by their local Business Development Manager in recognition of their service, with each of these individuals and/or store team members awarded one of 12 values alongside their entry which reflects the wider core Sigma values. These include, but are not limited to, resilience, compassion, and leadership, amongst others.

Head of Amcal and Guardian, Kurt O’Brien, comments the initiative is designed to celebrate those that have been in front of our communities and demonstrate the group’s appreciation across over 300+ store networks.

“Thank you to our pharmacy champions – during the height of Covid-19 and since, our pharmacists, along with other allied healthcare professionals, have been true champions at the front line, delivering unwavering and first-class care for their communities and teams,” says Mr O’Brien.

“Our teams did – and continue – to navigate uncharted situations due to Covid-19. This meant in 2020, our pharmacy champions needed to adapt in more than one way.

“For some, this was personally adapting to state and federal guidelines as members of the community themselves, and for others this was compounded by the need to dually adapt their in-store procedures and operations in real-time.

“Sometimes these changes were weekly, sometimes they were daily, and sometimes, hourly; all of which required our pharmacists and teams to continue to live to our values.

“Undeterred by these changes as frequent and unpredictable as they were, our teams stepped up to the challenge with some marvellous stories of resilience, including those who opened outside store hours, those who created overnight drive-through medical assistance outside their shops, or those that offered same-day delivery turnaround to some of the most vulnerable in the community,” adds Mr O’Brien.

In addition to on-ground team support, Mr O’Brien also comments on the agility of its broader supplier network at large for assisting in providing this level of care and support.

“Through our delivery partners, such as MedAdvisor, and through our tailored Amcal and Guardian home delivery service, this year we were able to reach metro and regional markets like never before, some of whom were under tightened physical restrictions and in need of critical assistance,” says Mr O’Brien.

“Ultimately, this speed and agility also enabled our team members on the ground to support local healthcare needs, while remaining flexible and sensitive to the changing environment around us,” adds Mr O’Brien.

The Christmas initiative follows a separate program earlier this year from the Sigma retail pharmacy brands during the height of the first wave of Covid-19. The program saw various teams honoured with a range of physically distant store selfies in honour of tireless pharmacists, pharmacy assistants and pharmacy teams in each pharmacy.

In 2021, Amcal and Guardian will continue to live up to its promise of quality healthcare and support, with a raft of broader business initiatives to be announced soon.

TerryWhite Chemmart’s largest conference ever, with more than 560 registered attendees, formally began in Sydney last Sunday (August 26) with the announcement of a new advisory group.

The conference offered insights on future pharmacy and digital trends shared by an expert industry panel including Ebos CEO John Cullity and Apotex Managing Director Roger Millichamp, and an outline of new health initiatives and partnerships.

CEO Anthony White says TerryWhite Chemmart (TWC) is advancing its vision to become Australia’s favourite pharmacy through the success of the retail transformation program being implemented across the network, increased customer engagement through the TWC health app, and amplification of health programs and initiatives that will focus on customers’ key health challenges.

“We believe customers are looking for health advice from pharmacists who are professional, highly knowledgeable, engaging and efficient, and we are strongly committed to ensuring our pharmacists, through the various programs and relevant training, are able to provide an increased service to their customers,” he said.

“Our strong health focus ensures our brand is both recognisable and authentic in a fragmented market.

“We are achieving this through fast-tracking enhanced health programs around major health conditions of cardiovascular disease, asthma and diabetes, complemented by targeted health campaigns.

“We also recognise that medication adherence is one of the key health issues facing our society and one we are committed to addressing through the ongoing development of our health app.

“We are confident that innovations to be delivered through our health app, together with our commitment to continually upskill our pharmacists through our Masterclass program, will inspire loyalty and trust with customers.

“The TerryWhite Chemmart Advisory Group (TAG) will play an important role in the network’s development particularly around customer engagement, new health initiatives and pharmacy engagement.

“The role of the TAG as a trusted peer group is to provide leadership and ongoing engagement with members and, importantly, input and feedback into key initiatives and their rollout throughout the group.”

The three-day conference concluded on Tuesday evening with a gala dinner and the announcement of award winners:

  • Pharmacy of the Year – TerryWhite Chemmart Samford, Queensland, for customer service excellence led by owner and Pharmacist of the Year Karen Brown.
  • Rhonda White Leadership Award – Judy Plunkett of Port Macquarie, NSW, an owner pharmacist for 36 years and a member of the TerryWhite Chemmart group for 25 years.
  • Innovation Award – TerryWhite Chemmart Chester Pass Albany, WA, for a successful initiative that engages new parents.

Supplier awards were also given to Total Beauty Network for Best Supplier Representative Support, Swisse for Best Pharmacy Promotion and BioCeuticals for Supplier of the Year.
